A pivotal element will define future “knives out” mysteries

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Rian Johnson, the creative force behind the popular “Knives Out” film series, has stipulated a mandatory requirement for any future installments beyond the upcoming third movie. Johnson has served as both writer and director for the franchise’s three cinematic outings to date. This includes the initial 2019 theatrical release that launched the series, the 2022 Netflix acquisition “Glass Onion,” and the highly anticipated “Wake Up Dead Man.”

Johnson’s vision has been instrumental in shaping the unique blend of mystery, suspense, and dark humor that has become synonymous with the “Knives Out” brand. His influence extends beyond merely crafting intricate plotlines; he’s also been key in casting memorable characters and establishing a distinct visual style.

The first film introduced audiences to the astute detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig, who investigates the death of a wealthy patriarch. The second film saw Blanc travel to Greece to solve a new and complex murder amongst a group of eccentric individuals. Now, fans await the unfolding of the third installment, “Wake Up Dead Man,” which is scheduled for a limited theatrical engagement beginning November 26th. Following the theatrical window, the film will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 12th.

With the franchise’s continued success, and a strong dedicated fanbase, the condition implemented by Johnson guarantees a consistent creative vision for “Knives Out” films to come. The specific nature of this non-negotiable requirement has yet to be disclosed.
